About the Author
Sergio Cariello was born in Brazil in 1964 and started drawing as soon as could hold a pencil. At the age of five, he already knew that he wanted to be a cartoonist. And so did everyone else–he drew on church bulletins, napkins, and every surface wtihin his reach. He currently resides in Holiday, Florida.

Sergio has worked for Marvel Comics and DC Comics. He attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art as well as the Word of Life Bible Institute in upstate New York.

In February, 2006, he was contacted by David C. Cook to gauge his interest in a new project; completely re-illustrating Cook’s classic Picture Bible. What David C. Cook couldn’t know is that Sergio had grown up in Brazil with a Portuguese translation of that very same Picture Bible. He was reading the Picture Bible before he learned to ride a bike! Even though he knew as a kid that he wanted to be a comic artist, he never would have dreamed that he would one day get to work on the Picture Bible itself!

What did Jesus really mean when he said, “Follow Me”?

In this new book, David Platt, author of the New York Times bestselling book, Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream, contends that multitudes of people around the world culturally think they are Christians yet biblically are not followers of Christ.

Scores of men, women, and children have been told that becoming a follower of Jesus simply involves believing certain truths or saying certain words. As a result, churches today are filled with people who believe they are Christians . . . but aren’t. We want to be disciples as long as doing so does not intrude on our lifestyles, our preferences, our comforts, and even our religion.

Revealing a biblical picture of what it means to truly be a Christian, Follow Me explores the gravity of what we must forsake in this world, as well as the indescribable joy and deep satisfaction to be found when we live for Christ.

The call to follow Jesus is not simply an invitation to pray a prayer; it’s a summons to lose your life—and to find new life in him. This book will show you what such life actually looks like.

Editorial Reviews
From the Back Cover
What did Jesus really mean when He said, “Follow me?”

Is it possible for people to say they believe in Jesus but not truly be born again?

Is it possible for people to claim they have accepted Christ into their hearts yet not actually be Christians?

Not only is it possible, but according to Pastor David Platt, it’s also highly probable. The author of the bestselling book Radical is convinced that many people in our churches today are misled as to what it truly means to be a follower of Christ. Western culture has drained the lifeblood out of Christianity and replaced it with a watered-down version of the gospel that is so palatable it isn’t even real anymore.

“Follow me,” Jesus calls.

Two simple words that change everything. You will never be bored. You will always have purpose. You will never lack joy. But it will cost you. This call is not an invitation to pray a prayer. It is a summons to lose your life.

a call to die. a call to live. Have you answered that call?

Made to Crave is the missing link between a woman’s desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen. The reality is we were made to crave. Craving isn’t a bad thing. But we must realize God created us to crave more of him. Many of us have misplaced that craving by overindulging in physical pleasures instead of lasting spiritual satisfaction. If you are struggling with unhealthy eating habits, you can break the ‘I’ll start again Monday’ cycle, and start feeling good about yourself today. Learn to stop beating yourself up over the numbers on the scale. Discover that your weight loss struggle isn’t a curse but rather a blessing in the making, and replace justifications that lead to diet failure with empowering go-to scripts that lead to victory. You can reach your healthy weight goal — and grow closer to God in the process. This is not a how-to book. This is not the latest and greatest dieting plan. This book is the necessary companion for you to use alongside whatever healthy lifestyle plan you choose. This is a book and Bible study to help you find the ‘want to’ in making healthy lifestyle choices.

Best-selling author Kathy Bostrom offers this book of devotions to help women create calm in the chaos of their busy lives. The book comprises twenty-eight days of devotions for each month of the year, so that readers can begin using the book during any month. Each week’s devotions, prayers, quotations, and “Spirit Boosters” focus on one Bible passage, which is read each day of that week. Each week ends with a “Sabbath Celebration,” a time for quiet prayer, reflection, and renewal. The “Spirit Boosters” for each week are divided into “Reaching In” and “Reaching Out” sections. They offer suggestions for ways to be kind to yourself and to others while nurturing your own faith. This book is ideal for women’s prayer groups, to give as a gift, or to give to yourself.

Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
“This is the equation of my life,” writes Bostrom: “One husband plus two jobs plus three children plus half a dozen projects all going on at once.” It’s no wonder that she feels exhausted, and she is not alone in such fatigue. How can women find spiritual refreshment in the midst of laundry, bills, school conferences and work? The Bible, says Bostrom, offers wisdom for finding “calm in the chaos” as early as the opening verse of Genesis, when God creates the earth from a formless void. Bostrom doesn’t want this devotional to add to the stress that women already feel, or become just another item on their never-ending to-do lists. To this end, it has a slightly different sensibility than other Christian devotionals: rather than incorporating the obligatory scripture du jour, Bostrom uses a single scripture for an entire week. This way, she says, readers can really delve into the passage and let its meaning wash over them for a substantial period of time. Also, she wants readers to engage in a weekly “Sabbath celebration,” to set Sunday apart as a true respite from the clamor of the week. She speaks openly from her own experiences of being busy and tired, noting that she suffers from a chronic illness that forces her to choose only those activities that are most meaningful. Literary readers will enjoy the well-chosen quotations from the likes of William Sloane Coffin, Madeleine L’Engle, Thomas Aquinas, Wendell Berry, Thomas Merton and Frederick Buechner.

From the Back Cover
“In this inspiring book of devotions, Kathy Bostrom becomes our daily companion and guide. Her delightful reflections are grounded in her very real life as a woman, a mother, and a minister. This book is a gentle and stress-free way to take moments of quiet reflection, even in the busiest of lives.” –Denise Roy, author of My Monastery Is a Minivan
“The reader will want this book for the collection of quotations alone, but Kathy Bostrom has given us much, much more. She has lived the pushing pulling chaos of life, and yet she has emerged with a voice of calm faithfulness. Her warm personal stories relating carefully chosen weekly scripture, poetry, prayer, quotation and Sabbath Celebration to the unrelenting everydayness of women’s lives is a reminder of God’s gifts: the incredible availability of God and a peacefulness that is ours for the taking, an inner God-blessed peacefulness. –Ann Weems, author of Kneeling in Bethlehem, Searching for Shalom, and Psalms of Lament

“Kathy Bostrom’s new book is a superb addition to the spiritual treasury of the church. Within a practical daily prayer discipline she provides a rich resource of readings – prayers, poetry and prose – drawn from the saints both ancient and modern, and also a series of personal meditations, rooted in daily life, which reach deep into the soul and the life of faith. I was enchanted, and found it hard to resist the temptation to read ahead.” –J. Barrie Shepherd, author of Diary of Daily Prayer

“Kathleen Bostrom sets forth her intent early–to help us “create calm in the chaos, not add to it” by simply giving us one more thing to do. She succeeds. This is not one of those trite devotionals that wraps everything up nicely with a bow on top and leaves you longing for something deeper, more lasting. I found myself eagerly strategizing a way to carve out my next few moments (I have four kids and a neurotic dog!) to sit with that day’s devotion and let Kathleen’s words soak into my soul like rain into thirsty soil. Kathleen offers a grace-filled practical plan that guides us through each week, creating space for God to cultivate His peace, His calm in our lives.” –Lisa Espinoza Johnson, speaker, recording artist, and author of Days of Whine and Noses–Pep Talks for Tuckered Out Moms

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful devotional book for women — and men! February 3, 2006
By Leah B. Wyckoff
Format:PaperbackKathy Bostrom has written a wonderful devotional book that encourages readers to reflect on and engage with scripture and prayer in their daily lives. One of the book’s strengths is that Bostrom has the reader reflect on one scripture in a variety of ways over the course of a week. New understandings and ideas may be revealed with each day’s reading of the scripture. At the end of each week is a Sabbath Celebration, a time to incorporate light, prayer, scripture and silence into one’s personal worship. I appreciate Kathy Bostrom’s writing, which illuminates the sacred in daily living and encourages the reader to enjoy the gift of daily devotional time.

You are invited to a one-of-a- kind reading experience. Enjoy a thrilling novel and a biblical commentary ripped from today’s headlines at the same time. Revelation Road combines two books into one. The modern world has been thrust into chaos and uncertainty. Iran’s nuclear threat; the burgeoning Arab Spring; the toppling of long-ruling Mideast despots and the power vacuum left in the wake; Israel’s security under attack from hostile powers abroad and wavering support from America. Modern dangers? Yes, but calamities foretold in the Bible thousands of years ago. Revelation Road explains the events occurring on our darkening horizon and their Biblical significance.

George and Mimi Thompson believe their grandson Tyler lives in the final generation. Lovingly, they prepare the lad for life after the destruction of Damascus, the strategic strike of Iran’s nuclear sites, the final Arab-Israeli war, nuclear terrorism in America, and the coming world religion and global government. Experience the End Times through the eyes of the Thompson family, and discover how their gripping story uncovers the silver lining of hope against the backdrop of global gloom and doom… Their family tale could soon become your reality!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ! January 14, 2012
By Lynn E. Wheeler
Format:PaperbackI read Bill Salus’ first book, Isralistine, and Revelation Road is the perfect follow up book. It combines a touching story line of end time events with real Bible commentary. For those who have questions regarding near future events in the Middle-east, this book has the answers. It also places real life situations and relationships into perspective as these events unfold. The unique thing about this book is that it is really 2 books in one. A novel and a Bible commentary. The novel is full of intrigue and suspense and the commentary is well thought out and Biblically based and easy to read. Thank you Bill Salus for giving us this book. I look forward to reading your next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique way to study End Times Prophecies January 12, 2012
By M. Beardsley
Format:PaperbackI was honored to get the pre-publish manuscript to this book. If you have had a chance to read “Isralestine” Bill’s first book, and found it interesting, you will find this one equally interesting and informative. Bill uses a combination of a pseudo-fictional novel – main characters are fictional but many other characters, some events and the scripture quoted are real; combine with a pretty in-depth study of those scriptures mentioned in the novel part of the book. It is a great way of allowing folks to see how scriptures that are sometimes hard to grasp, such as End Times prophecies, might come to fulfillment in real world ways, based on current events. It also gives the reader a quick view of how many eschatologist view world events through prophecy.

The First part of the book is the fictional novel, then the 2nd half of the book is the commentary part that examines the scriptures referred to in that particular chapter of the novel. I found the novel part riveting and the commentary part very well done and does a great job of examining the scriptures in the given Chapter. Each Chapter in the novel part has associated chapter(s) in the Commentary part of the book. If you are a student of Bible Prophecy, this is a must have, in my humble opinion. If you are NOT a student of End Times Prophecies, you need to check this book out, as I think you will find it very helpful in understanding current events from a Biblical point of view. I really think regardless of how versed you are in eschatology(study of End Times Prophecies), you will find a great deal of enjoyment in the novel part of the book, as well as find the commentary very informative. I am looking forward to the 2nd volumne in this series! If you are a student of Eschatology and don’t have a copy of Bill’s first book, “Isralestine: Ancient Blueprints to a Future Middle East”, that too is a must have for your library!

Building on her signature message of using the mind to master difficult emotions, Joyce Meyer focuses on the most destructive, insidious one of all: anger. It is responsible for broken relationships, sleepless nights, high blood pressure and ulcers. It destroys friendships, marriages and families, not to mention peace of mind. Anger is especially hard to handle for many Christians who have learned from childhood that “good Christians don’t get angry.” Meyer argues that properly handled, anger is an alert system that something is wrong and needs to be resolved.

In her latest book, she delves into the important process of forgiving, explaining its positive impact on the roots, the forms and the results of anger.

Why forgive? Joyce explains that forgiving is the only thing that can free one from the terrible turmoil that anger causes to spill over into every part of life.

Meyer understands that life will never be fair, but that is not a reason to let anger destroy our well-being and health. This is her guide to navigating that thorny territory and finding true peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I’ve ever read, April 17, 2012
By Sugarplum – See all my reviewsAmazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Do Yourself a Favor…Forgive: Learn How to Take Control of Your Life Through Forgiveness (Hardcover)
A very powerful book that helped me get out of depression due to abusive relationship!

I had been abused in many ways by my husband and though I tried very hard, it was very difficult for me to be free from all the painful memories. I would often wonder, ‘Why would God just let him be when he is so destructive and evil?’
At one point, I did have to run away from him with our child for the sake of sanity as well as safety. Life became frustrating because I am in no man’s land – not divorced, not separated, yet I’m practically a single mother in every sense.
I read Karen’s post and totally understand what she’s saying about the danger of reconnecting with dangerous exes. I believe that God will never force us to meet and reconnect with husbands or exes unless hearts are ready and God’s timing is ripe. I believe what Joyce is saying here is to prepare our hearts the way God wants us to so that He can work in our relationships and bring healing.
It takes a lot of effort on my part to finally accept and say that despite what happened, God is good and His goodness and faithfulness will prevail in this mess of my life.

After reading this book, I was able to set aside all the excuses. Finally, I decided and declared that I forgive and bless my husband and let the past pass. It does not mean I am running back to him right now because he, unchanged and unrepentant, will definitely harm me.
It just means I am not gonna spend nights crying, hurting, and hating my husband. I am so tired of it and I want to be free. I have no idea how long I have to live like this, but I will put my hope and trust in God – something I could not do prior to reading this book.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to take off huge burdens of offenses, anger, turmoils, and painful memories resulted by strained relationships: While they never just disappear,it feels so much better and lighter to set them aside and let God take care of these heavy loads.
Joyce is right, we must forgive because God commands us to forgive as the ones who are forgiven. But in the process, we will realize that we are actually doing ourselves a huge favor by forgiving… Freedom from depression, self-pity, and pain!

Fantastic Bible Study September 4, 2005
By Colleen
Format:PaperbackI begame a Beth Moore groupie with her first Bible Study on the Old Testiment Tabernacle and have followed her with each successive study that she has written. I’ve also traveled to see her speak, and gone to a similcast or two. That’s the kind of lady she is. If you read her, you’ll love her too, and be trying your best to keep up with her.

This study did not, at the time it was released, have videos to accompany it, so I consequently passed it over and moved on to the next one. I think it’s been more than a year now that Beth finally put videos to this study and made it available as an online study. I completed it last year. It is excellent, as is all her stuff.

I recommend it HIGHLY for the working woman, like me, who hardly has the time to get the laundry done or bills paid on time. You can do each lesson at whatever pace you want and when you have finally completed it then you can log on and watch the video. It took me about 8 months to complete this 10-week study at my own pace. A devotional my kids ASK me to read each night February 3, 2009
By Sam & Julia’s mom
Format:HardcoverIf you want your children to connect their daily lives to Biblical principals in language your preschooler will understand, then this is the book for you. The author, a speaker and writer for MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) grabbed my son’s attention from the first sentence. The beauty of the short, but sweet devotions is that they are interactive. Simple questions get right to the heart of the day’s story and offer a chance for your child to share their feelings.

Here’s an example from December 27th’s devotional titled, “Win or Lose”

“Parker and Jack are having a snowball fight. Each boy hopes he will win! Do you like to win when you play games? Everyone likes to win. But when you play games, everyone loses now and then. Did you know there is something you can never lose? You can never loes God’s love. No matter who may be against you. God will always be on your side.”

Notice that this is a Winter story? I’ve found that the more relevant the situation the more my son get’s out of our devotional time. The day about “Working for Fun” caught his attention since he loves to bake cookies:

“Kaitlyn, Jack and Parker are making Christmas cookies. It will take a lot of work. But when the cookies are done, they will get a reward – they’ll have cookies to eat together! The Bible says that hard work often brings happy rewards. When the kids eat their cookies, do you think they will be happy they worked so hard?”

Seeds are being planted in my son and that makes me one happy Mama! But what about actual scripture verses, you ask? Not to worry! At the bottom of each page is a Bible verse and a prayer. The prayers rhymes, which I love. I have my son repeat every few words after me.

“Lord, when there’s work that needs to be done, help me remember that work can be fun. (December 18th’s Working for Fun devotional)”

Review
‘The Jesus Storybook Bible is unlike any other storybook. True, that’s to be expected when you combine the mesmerizing illustrations of Jago and the award-winning writing of Sally Lloyd-Jones, a Brit with an uncanny knack for storytelling. Not only is each story as vividly illustrated as it is portrayed, but also each tale is telling one Big Story—the Story of Jesus. Even the Old Testament stories of ‘The young hero and the horrible giant’ and ‘Daniel and the scary sleepover’ come full circle to Jesus, the greatest Hero, King, Lover and Rescuer the world has ever known. — More to Life Magazine

(More to Life Magazine )

”The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name’ disproves the adage that you can’t judge a book by its cover. Jago’s award-winning cover art is a foretaste of the whimsically insightful and richly colored drawings that await you on every one of the book’s 351 pages. The illustrations alone are worth the price of the book….Jago the illustrator, and Sally Lloyd-Jones the author, are a good pair. She brings the same creativity and sense of humor to her telling of the Bible’s stories….But Lloyd-Jones’s writing isn’t cutesy. She has a grasp of the profound. How does one explain to a child the agony of Jesus in Gethsemane, and his prayer of surrender to his Father? Lloyd-Jones does it as well as any biblical commentator….The title and subtitle are even better than the book’s delightful illustrations and narrative — because they provide, in one deft stroke, the interpretive key that unlocks the meaning of the whole Bible. ‘The Jesus Storybook Bible’ says it all: The Scriptures are not merely a collection of stories designed to teach moral lessons. As Jesus explained to the men walking the road to Emmaus on Resurrection Sunday, the whole Bible is about Jesus. In the words of the subtitle, every story whispers his name….Lloyd-Jones manages to show again and again the presence of Christ in all the Old Testament Scriptures, and the presence of the Old Testament Scriptures in the life of Christ.’ — Christianity Today

(Christianity Today )

The Jesus Storybook Bible is, in my opinion, one of the best resources available to help both children and adults see the Jesus-centered story line of the Bible. Tullian Tchividjian , Senior Pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church — PCA, Fort Lauderdale, FL.

(PCA, Fort Lauderdale, FL. )

The quality and originality of this retelling of the Bible is impressive. Difficult concepts for children are clearly explained within the context of their stories. The text blends perfectly with the strong color and texture of the illustrations, which are original and lively and a million miles from ‘traditional’. The book, enhanced by the audio retelling will appeal to all children, not just those from a Christian background. — School Library Journal UK

‘I would urge not just families with young children to get this book, but every Christian–from pew warmers, to ministry leaders, seminarians and even theologians! Sally Lloyd-Jones has captured the heart of what it means to find Christ in all the scriptures, and has made clear even to little children that all God’s revelation has been about Jesus from the beginning–a truth not all that commonly recognized even among the very learned.’ — Dr. Tim Keller, Redeemer, NY, NY

Wow! and Wow! October 12, 2009
By Elyse Fitzpatrick
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified PurchaseAs a grandmother of six, I’m always on the search for edifying Christ-centered material, which is why I bought the Jesus Storybook Bible for my little darlings…Then I heard David Suchet’s reading of it and this wonderful book, which had already earned a “Wow!” from me got another really big “Wow!”…and so, it’s a good thing that I can order with one-click because I ordered copies for the kids (again!) and for my pal the preschool teacher and for…and for…
Really, Suchet’s readings made these stories spring to life and I’ve put them on my MP3 player and listen in the grocery store and at night when I can’t sleep and when I’m on the airplane and need to be reminded of God’s great love for me in Christ Jesus, my Rescuer.
You really must get this — even if you don’t have little ones. The child He calls you as needs to hear the story again and again.

I love, love, love this children’s Bible! October 27, 2009
By Sam K.
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified PurchaseI got this last week and we’ve been listening to the stories in the car. Everyone is captivated! The car gets so quiet so we can all listen (adults and kids alike). The narrator did a wonderful job. I’ve given out well over a dozen copies of the Jesus Storybook Bible and now I will most definitely switch to buying and gifting the Deluxe Edition.

Best Children’s Bible Out there March 18, 2010
By Dana E. Ellis
Format:HardcoverThe Deluxe Edition is a complete package of the reading on CDs and a read-along book. And, since we’ve put the girls to bed and down for naps with books on CDs since they were old enough to hold the book, I knew this set would be right up their alley. I must admit that when I received the book, just before Christmas, I set Emma up with the book and CD’s and saved my reading with her for something that she couldn’t do on her own. However, when I picked the book up to review, I decided that it was something that we needed to read together.

It is a nice bonus that the reader is David Suchet, one of Great Britain’s most distinguished actors, best known for playing Agatha Christie’s super-sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Since Emma finds a British accent as one of the upmost pleasurable things in life (apparently all princesses have British accents), she was hooked upon hearing the first lines of the introduction..

Illustrated by award winning, Jago, the illustrations are whimsical interpretations that serve to help bring the stories alive. While I know that illustrations are an important part of wrapping children into a book, personally, I am typically drawn to the words without paying much attention to the illustrations. However, Jago’s illustrations are so truly captivating and compliment the story so well, that I found myself reading the story through the pictures before I even began reading the words. I also found myself flipping back through to admire his artwork (something I do very rarely).

Those elements alone are worth the cost of the book. But, most surprisingly, I found the most beautiful description of the way that I want my children to view the Bible, right within the first pages of the book.

It’s taken all of my will power not to write the whole introduction right here and now. But, please allow me to share just a couple of pieces in which Sally Lloyd-Jones seemed to have looked straight into my heart and somehow put the passion that I have for my children to know God as a loving and compassionate father into words that I had not yet found.

Sally Lloyd-Jones writes:
“The Bible isn’t mainly about you and what you should be doing. It’s about God and what he has done.”

“Now, some people think the Bible is a book of rules, telling you what you should and shouldn’t do. The Bible certainly does have some rules in it. They show you how life works best. But the Bible isn’t mainly about you and what you should be doing. It’s about God and what he has done.

Other people think the Bible is a book of heroes, showing you people you should copy. The Bible does have some heroes in it, but (as you’ll soon find out) most of the people in the Bible aren’t heroes at all. They make some big mistakes (sometimes on purpose), they get afraid and run away. At times, they’re downright mean.

No, the Bible isn’t a book of rules, or a book of heroes. The Bible is most of all a Story. It’s an adventure story about a young Hero who comes from a far country to win back his lost treasure. It’s a love story about a brave Prince who leaves his palace, his throne-everything-to rescues the ones he loves. It’s like the most wonderful of fairy tales that has come true in real life”.

I completely agree with Dr. Tim Keller’s endorsement of the book below:

“I would urge not just families with young children to get this book, but every Christian–from pew warmers, to ministry leaders, seminarians and even theologians! Sally Lloyd-Jones has captured the heart of what it means to find Christ in all the scriptures, and has made clear even to little children that all God’s revelation has been about Jesus from the beginning–a truth not all that commonly recognized even among the very learned.” — Dr. Tim Keller, Redeemer, NY, NY

The Samurai were soldiers of feudal Japan who dedicated their lives entirely to their lords. In fact, the very title of samurai means “one who serves.” Legends of their skill, sacrifice, and service have been passed down for hundreds of years. As Christians, we are called to be both servants and soldiers of Christ. As this book demonstrates, there is much we can learn from the teachings and example of these legendary servant-warriors of Japan. We can respond to the call of our Lord, Jesus Christ, as Christian Samurai.

Unique, Sound, and Very Practical August 22, 2007
By B. S. Copeland
Format:Paperback”If one were to say in a word what the condition of being a samurai is, its basis lies in seriously devoting one’s body and soul to his master…”

This quote, taken from Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai, appears on the back cover of WCS. As the quote illustrates, the teachings of the samurai are extremely relevant for Christians, for their single purpose in life was to serve their master and those around them. As the author points our in the book’s introduction, the title “samurai” literally means “one who serves.” The relevance of such a philosophy is obvious for Christians. We are called to deny ourselves and to serve God and our neighbor. However, in our selfish, individualistic culture, the idea of servant hood is entirely foreign to us and we tend to minimize the emphasis on the selfless nature of such servant hood.

The value of this book is in its ability to show us what true servant hood is by examples of the writings of the samurai of old. Of course, we have the perfect example of servant hood in Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, it seems like we mythologize his selflessness because of the fact that Jesus is God. Its true that he is God, and that we can’t live up to his perfect display of sacrifice is undeniable. Nonetheless, we are called to live by his example and promised that the trials we face by imitating his self-denial will mature us to be more like him. I’m afraid that we Westerners have trouble living by Christ’s example because the mythological nature that we attach to his servant hood. What would help us is to see examples of people throughout history who lived by the philosophy of being servants who deny themselves on a daily basis to better serve their masters. God has provided us such examples in the samurai of the feudal period of Japan.

In the book, Paul Nowak deals with three main works written by the samurai and shows how their philosophy is practical to Christians. He also shows Scripture passages that parallel these teachings. Amazingly, many of the excerpts from the samurai works are basically rewordings of passages of Scripture. Quickly after I began reading the book I was absolutely amazed by the level of devotion that they aimed to live by. By no means am I more impressed with their example than I am by our Lord’s example. Rather, I was encouraged to see that these men actually displayed the self-denial and loyalty to their master that we are called to do. Keep in mind also, that the samurai were this committed to a fallen human. Our master is the perfect risen King who helps us by sending us his Spirit! How much better should our example of servant hood be? To me, it should be much better. Yet from the examples given in this book, we have a lot of work to do in order to surpass the pagan samurai in our devotion to our master.

After reading it, I have a much better sense of what service and self-denial is. More importantly, it has helped me see more clearly the example that Jesus set, and has encouraged me that I can do much more in imitating it. Also note that this is not one of those lame self-help books. It is thoroughly Christ-centered. It is also a very unique book. I’m pretty sure that it will be a while before I come across a book this unique in content, yet this sound in its message. I suggest this book to everyone but especially to people who are interested in Japanese culture, because it deals a lot with the writings of the legendary samurai who helped make the culture famous.

Holy Warriors October 25, 2007
By Labarum VINE™ VOICE
Format:PaperbackA lot of people will get nervous about a book that suggests Christians have something to learn from the Samurai about how to serve the Lord. After all, weren’t the Samauri pagans? And doesn’t all of this reek of the sort of syncretism that attempts to equate all religions? It might except for two facts: Not all pagans were monsters and the modern West (including most of the Christians living there) have a lot to learn from the Samauri about the time honored concept of willing servitude.

Paul Nowak attempts to remedy that situation with The Way of the Christian Samurai. Consisting on excerpts from noted samauri masters (the samurai were a class of elite warriors in feudal Japan) with commentary noting applications to the Christian life, the book demonstrates how much modern society has lost in its quest for unrestrained egalitarianism. Certain passages in the New Testament – particularly those showing the deference given by the Apostles and others to Jesus (even before they knew His true nature as the Son of God) – can be misconstrued without understanding the cultural milieu wherein a respected figure was shown honor by those he visited and subservience by his followers. This is at odds with our own tradition on self-reliance to the point of self-centeredness that has led to the highly individualistic form of Christianity that has taken root in America (both on the liberal and conservative ends of the spectrum). The result is the claim of Jesus as Lord without fully grasping the import of claiming someone as Lord.

The samauri may not have been Christian but they did understand concepts that are applicable to the Christian life – often better than we. Integrity, loyalty, honor, service, courage, and self-sacrifice are all things that the samurai were instructed to live. Naturally, many failed in their personal lives but that is as true of Christian clerics as of samurai warriors. The important thing was that they understood the standard for which they strived while in many cases we in the postmodern world are oblivious to the existence of standards.

The excerpts on serving one’s lord are eye-openers for any Christian with a “soft” view of service that rarely goes beyond activities at their local church. The willingness of a warrior to give himself completely to his lord underscores what it means to make oneself part of the “body of Christ”. The Church, in this context, is not an abstract collection of like-minded individuals, but a concrete force sent out to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ a dying world.

To Nowak’s credit, he constantly emphasizes that the Samurai are not in any way Christian and the Samurai way is infinitely inferior to the Way of Christ. The samurai way is at times at odds with the Christian way and in these instances we are to reject the samurai teaching. However, we can learn how we are to serve our lord by the standards the samurai set in serving theirs. It is not a direct application of samurai teachings but one by analogy. It in a sense becomes comparable to how the early Church was able to utilize classical pagan philosopy in systematizing its own theology.

In all this talk of service, one might ask: What about freedom? Indeed, the Christian faith is certainly about freedom. It is about being freed from the bondage of sin but this freedom is found in placing oneself under the headship of Christ. Christians find freedom in becoming part of Christ’s body the Church when we place ourselves in service to Him. This does not at all correlate with the modern idea of freedom that insists we must follow our own desires, but looks back to a time when willingly placing oneself in the service of a great leader was considered a virtue not a vice.

The Way of the Christian Samurai is truly an unusual book among the many published that seek to link Christianity to various Eastern religions or philosophies. It’s uniqueness lies not in any success in doing so, but in its insistence that any such linkage must be judged by the known truths of the Christian faith. Given the limited focus of the book, its acknowledgment of the superiority Biblical teaching, and its usefulness in shedding light on often ignored facets of the Christian way, it is an important book that can be read with profit by those in the Church.

Do you take aspirin, Tylenol or Advil when you have a headache?

Well, this book is medicine for the spirit!

It is broken down into categories for easy reference. IE: Hope, anger, encouragement, faith and so on.

So many times we get “attacked” during the day… I pull out my book find the appropriate scriptures, say them out load (that’s the key) and immediately feel the peace of God.

This review is from: The Secret Power of Speaking God’s Word (Hardcover)
When I first received this book, I was a little disappointed because it wasn’t what I expected. It has turned out to be even better than I expected. This book has become my pocket reference for POWERFUL scriptures. I carried it one day to a business seminar, during one of the breaks my co-worker learned some disappointing news. I could see her spirit was down and she needed some encouragement. I started to quote some of the powerful scriptures on faith from the book. She asked to see the book, she read over the scriptures and began meditating on them. Her spirit quickly became uplifted.
The size of the book is perfect, you can discretly pull it out and look up a scripture for whatever you may be dealing with at the time. There are scriptures on, insecurity, patience, favor, wisdom, courage, and depression to name a few.

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

Our faith begins with what we know and believe about God. Our faith will carry us how far we are willing to let it take us. Faith is a choice and we need to begin by choosing to believe in Jesus and His power to move mountains, heal the sick, and save us from all our sins through His sacrifice on the cross.

When we believe in God we then learn to walk in faith and trust God. But first we must believe, and it’s up to us, we can either choose to believe in Him or not. But faith will mean nothing until we believe with all our heart that God is who He says He is.

This review is from: Faith – Four Week Mini Bible Study (Becoming Press Mini Bible Studies) (Kindle Edition)
This week, I read Heather Bixler’s Mini Bible Study on FAITH. This is one of my favorite subjects, and having been a Christian for many years, I didn’t suppose there was much I hadn’t already heard about it, but it’s nice to hear it, again. My goodness, was I wrong! While the scriptures were familiar, I loved the wonderfully fresh perspectives on them that can only come from someone who is truly “in touch” with the Lord. How can I say something like that? Well, I’ll tell you. It’s because I came away with something life-changing.

It was the suggestion that faith is a choice.

Now, having always considered faith to be something that “grew” in you, something you had to personally work hard to cultivate, this was a highly refreshing thought for me to think about. If all I had to do was choose (like picking chocolate over vanilla), I would choose faith all day long. Then it occurred to me that maybe I simply had the habit of looking where I had been, to figure out where I was going, instead of looking ahead. So, I started making a conscious decision to “choose faith” if ever I spotted an opportunity on my horizon. What a boon to realize there were little opportunities everywhere, once I started looking for them! And what a surprise to discover how much I liked doing it. There was a bonus, too.

Choosing faith has made me feel joyful. It makes me smile when I think about it, and gives me something to look forward to every day. What’s more, it doesn’t go away, like so many other enjoyable things do after they’re over. In short, this little Bible study made me think, and discover new things about my own Christianity. And that’s how I knew for sure where this secret truly came from. Perhaps if you read this book (and I hope you will), God will whisper something joyful to your heart, as well. Meanwhile, I’m very glad Heather Bixler took the time to share what she heard.

Thank you, Heather!

Uniquely inspired treasures from heaven for every day of the year by missionary Sarah Young.

Jesus Calling is a devotional filled with uniquely inspired treasures from heaven for every day of the year. After many years of writing in her prayer journal, missionary Sarah Young decided to listen to God with pen in hand, writing down whatever she believed He was saying to her. It was awkward at first, but gradually her journaling changed from monologue to dialogue. She knew her writings were not inspired as Scripture is, but journaling helped her grow closer to God. Others were blessed as she shared her writings, until people all over the world were using her messages. They are written from Jesus’ point of view, thus the title Jesus Calling. It is Sarah’s fervent prayer that our Savior may bless readers with His presence and His peace in ever deeper measure.

This review is from: Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence (Hardcover)
“Jesus Calling” is a relatively unique devotional book in that Sarah Young has written her devotions from the point of view of Jesus Christ. Using this technique gives the book a sense of immediacy and intimacy with the Lord, and this is the great strength of the book.

Many of these short sayings that Young puts in the mouth of Jesus are things the Lord would say and has said to me during a life of listening to Him, reading the Scriptures, and keeping a journal. How often have I heard Him remind me to worship Him alone, to trust in Him at all times, and that He is always with me. To hear these words as if they are Jesus’ own can be beneficial to the soul.

However, there are 4 reasons I can give “Jesus Calling” only 3 stars and not 4 or 5 stars, (even though I’m vastly outnumbered in the reviews on Amazon).

1. Young has Jesus say only a limited range of things compared to what God actually teaches in the entirety of the Bible. I love to hear Jesus say things like, “Relax; Trust Me; Listen to Me; I am with you; I am calling you; and Wait for Me.” But this seems to be all that Young’s Jesus ever says. Where are the specific commandments of Jesus, and not just “affirmations”? Where does this Jesus ever talk about the practical ways we should love our neighbor, and not just love God? And why is it always a solitary call to be alone with Him, when we’re called to be the Church?

2. “Jesus Calling” shows Young’s bias and doesn’t have Jesus say the hard things He must often say. Where are His reminders and commandments to seek forgiveness and to forgive, to love regardless of the cost, etc? This Jesus doesn’t seem ask us to do anything difficult or to sacrifice very much. It’s all “You are on the right path.” Where are the times when Jesus has to chastise, correct, and discipline us? Where are the times when He says things like, “Repent!” or “You’re being too selfish and must take up your cross for Me today.”?

3. “Jesus Calling” doesn’t give any hint that sometimes God may withdraw His sweet fruit from our lives so we will depend only on Him, and not on His gifts. The saints have often experienced the “dark night of the soul” when we can’t always feel God’s blessed Presence? What then? Young’s devotional doesn’t account for this.

4. The devotionals are not directly scriptural. Thankfully, these devotionals aren’t heretical or unsound: they’re just incomplete. It’s true that there are some Scripture references tacked on at the end of each devotional, but I don’t sense that the whole counsel of God comes through in these devotionals. I like what God has told Young, but sometimes it’s all too easy to interpret your own voice as being that of the Lord’s. Occasionally, the words presented as Jesus’ are jarring and don’t sound like Jesus, such as: “This is a paradigm shift that will revolutionize your life” (devotional for March 22).

“Jesus Calling” has undoubtedly blessed many lives and will continue to do so. However, it gives a narrow view of the entirety of what Jesus Christ has to say to us.

Jesus said, “You must love the Lord your God with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” – Luke10:27

If one had to choose a single verse in the Bible that is a formula for successful living, this would be the one to live by, says Joyce Meyer: love God, yourself and others – in that order.

Many Christians get mixed up about love. They know they should love God and others, but many do not understand that loving oneself is one-third of God’s equation. They mistakenly think of it as selfishness or self-aggrandizement.

Joyce Meyer believes that this misconception is one of the greatest pitfalls in the Christian journey. Loving oneself in a balanced, healthy manner is essential in order to have healthy relationships with God, ourselves and others.

Drawing upon her previous work and teaching series as well as original devotions, the author of Power Thoughts examines the three loves that we’ve been commanded to exhibit.

This review is from: Love Out Loud: 365 Devotions for Loving God, Loving Yourself, and Loving Others (Hardcover)
This is a very practical book and best value can be got if it is read diligently everyday. And not just read, but read and contemplated upon. I found that a daily slow reading, followed by reflection on how the day’s reading could be put into practice in my everyday life, brought me incremental peace of mind, happiness, dramatically improved productivity and my relationships.

What is Jesus worth to you?

It’s easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily…

But who do you know who lives like that? Do you?

In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple–then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a “successful” suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.

Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment–a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Review
Responses to Radical

“In his compelling new book, Radical, David Platt delivers a powerful picture of the church in America today that, on key points, stands in sharp contrast to what the Bible shows us about the person and purpose of Jesus Christ. David challenges Christians to wake up, trade in false values rooted in the American dream, and embrace the notion that each of us is blessed by God for a global purpose—to make Christ’s glory known to all the nations! This is a must-read for every believer!”
—Wess Stafford, president and CEO, Compassion Intl.

“We have moved into a generation of young leaders who have a passion to surrender the American dream if necessary in order to embrace fully, compassionately, and wholeheartedly a bigger dream—the Great Commission. I have never been challenged by an author more than I have by David Platt. Read Radical, be blessed, and be changed.”
—Johnny Hunt, president, Southern Baptist Convention, and pastor, First Baptist Church of Woodstock

“Radical will cause you to bounce on a spectrum between two words: ouch and amen. Tough truths do that. They challenge us to examine our lives and then choose the lasting over the temporary. Read Radical if you’re ready to live differently.”
—Gregg Matte, senior pastor, First Baptist Church of Houston

“David Platt’s book will leave anyone who sincerely engages with his challenge dissatisfied—and faced with a decision: What will authentic faith look like in my life? This book has the potential to revitalize churches today to practice a radical, biblical lifestyle that can transform society and reach a lost world.”
—Jerry Rankin, president, International Mission Board, Southern Baptist Convention

“The church of the Lord Jesus has been seduced by a skilled seductress: the American dream. David Platt exposes this enemy of authentic Christianity and provides a way of escape through a radical faith that leads to a radical obedience. I am not the same after reading it. I trust that will also be true for you.”
—Daniel L. Akin, president, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

“It is almost impossible to keep the idols of our own culture from influencing us, whether we want it to happen or not. This is certainly true when it comes to the so-called American dream. We need our eyes opened! We need to be called out! In this challenging and thoughtful book, David Platt shows us the way to live for Someone and something bigger.”
—Darrin Patrick, founding pastor, The Journey, St. Louis

“Sometimes people will commend a book by saying, ‘You won’t want to put it down.’ I can’t say that about this book. You’ll want to put it down, many times. If you’re like me, as you read David Platt’s Radical, you’ll find yourself uncomfortably targeted by the Holy Spirit. You’ll see just how acclimated you are to the American dream. But you’ll find here another Way, one you know to be true, because you’ve heard it before in the words of the Lord Jesus, perhaps most forcefully in the simple call ‘Follow me.’”
—Russell D. Moore, dean, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

“Through solid examination of the Scriptures and compelling testimonies from believers enduring persecution, my friend David Platt pulls back the curtain on subtle dangers weakening the church in our Western culture. Radical is the urgent call we need to care more about the spiritually lost and physically impoverished people of the world.”
—Ed Stetzer, president, LifeWay Research

Customer Reviews:
This review is from: Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream (Paperback)
In Radical, David Platt looks at how Christianity in America has become far too comfortable. He suggests that Americans have become more interested in pursuing the “American dream” than in fulfilling their obligations to Christ. Platt mentions that many Christians will go so far as to twist the Word of God to mean what they desire it to mean. With this in mind, Platt challenges the reader to a year-long journey to make radical changes for the cause of Christ.

Radical is the no-excuse, no-holds-barred work of a pastor who is fed up with what Christianity has become in America. In his passionate way, David Platt shares his burden about a Christian religion that has strayed far from what it is supposed to be. His book teaches and convicts readers. His goal is to help Christians see what they’re missing out on by holding back in their faith.

The book contains stories that will make you weep, as well as those that will shock you. It gives the readers a bold look at where Christians are failing in today’s society and how to bring about a positive change. Platt speaks with no apologies, and his message will undoubtedly raise some eyebrows, especially among the “religious” crowd. However, I found his radical statements to be true and straight down the line of what the Bible teaches.

Say “goodbye” to watered-down theology and “feel good” messages. While Platt’s message may not be popular, I believe it is God-sent.

This review is from: Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream (Paperback)
Radical, David Platt’s new book (his first) is a challenge to the American church to take back our faith from the “American Dream.” Platt, the pastor of four-thousand member The Church of Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama, pulls no punches, and somehow manages to disturb without offending.

In nine short and very readable chapters, he makes the case for a radical Christian faith–which SHOULD be the norm. He shows the shameful poverty of our faith amid the affluence of our lifestyles. He advocates a Great Commission mindset far beyond the tidy routines of our comfortable Christianity. He says, for example,

If Jesus is who he said he is, and if his promises are as rewarding as the Bible claims they are, then we may discover that satisfaction in our lives and success in the church are not found in what our culture deems most important but in radical abandonment to Jesus.

If people are dying and going to hell without ever even knowing there is a gospel, then we clearly have no time to waste our lives on an American dream.

Why would we ever want to settle for Christianity according to our ability or settle for church according to our resources?

After eight compelling chapters filled with writing like the above, Radical concludes with The Radical Experiment, a clarion call to “One year to a life lived upside down,” in which the reader is urged to commit to:

Pray for the entire world
Read through the entire Word
Sacrifice your money for a specific purpose
Spend your time in another context
Commit your life to multiplying community

One might expect those challenges to seem like asking too much, particularly in light of some examples he gives. On the contrary, however, it is far more likely that the reader will be champing at the bit to rise to the challenge and respond to the call. In other words, ready to be radical.

The average person has 70,000 thoughts every day, and many of those thoughts trigger a corresponding emotion. No wonder so many of us often feel like we’re controlled by our emotions. Our lives would be much improved is we controlled them.

In LIVING BEYOND YOUR FEELINGS, Joyce Meyer examines the gamut of feelings that human beings experience. She discusses the way that the brain processes and stores memories and thoughts, and then – emotion by emotion – she explains how we can manage our reactions to those emotions. By doing that, she gives the reader a toolbox for managing the way we react to the onslaught of feelings that can wreak havoc on our lives.

In this book, Meyer blends the wisdom of the Bible with the latest psychological research and discusses: the 4 personality types and their influence on one’s outlook, the impact of stress on physical and emotional health, the power of memories, the influence of words on emotions, anger & resentment, sadness, loss & grief, fear, guilt & regret, the power of replacing reactions with pro-actions, and the benefits of happiness.

This review is from: Living Beyond Your Feelings: Controlling Emotions So They Don’t Control You (Hardcover)
I recently discovered Joyce Meyer Ministries a couple of months ago and her teaching is making such a difference in my life! Before this book, I bought one of her other books called Battlefield of the Mind and it is helping me in tremendous ways! I definitely recommend anything you can get by Joyce Meyer because it will truly impact your life in a positive way! I was so excited to hear about this book because this is one area I have trouble with, especially when I wake up in the morning and it’s overcast or rainy or I’m exhausted–it’s hard to ignore and rise above the negative feelings that usually come along with those things. I have started reading this book and it’s amazing! I definitely want to learn how I can control the emotions that come and not let them ruin my day or dictate my attitude! I highly recommend this book! Who would have thought we actually have control over our emotions?! Also, I highly recommend her teaching called “The Power of Words: What You Say Can Make All the Difference.” This is extremely helpful as well!!

God is love. Crazy, relentless, all-powerful love. Have you ever wondered if we’re missing it? It’s crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe–the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor–loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss. Whether you’ve verbalized it yet or not…we all know somethings wrong. Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts–it’s falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis Chan describes it, you will never be the same. Because when you’re wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.

Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
Chan, senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, Calif., offers a radical call for evangelicals to consider and emulate in this debut guide to living crazy for God. Chan’s own life compels him to live with urgency, and with good reason. His mother died giving birth to him, his stepmother died when he was nine, and his dad when he was 12. As a pastor, Chan says that conducting weekly funerals for people younger than himself has likewise sobered him to life’s unexpectedness and frailty. Chan writes with infectious exuberance, challenging Christians to take the Bible seriously. He describes at length the sorry state of lukewarm Christians who strive for a life characterized by control, safety and an absence of suffering. In stark contrast, the book offers real-life accounts of believers who have given all—time, money, health, even their lives—in obedience to Christ’s call.Chan also recounts his own attempts to live crazy by significantly downsizing his home and giving away his resources to the poor.Earnest Christians will find valuable take-home lessons from Chan’s excellent book. There are many voices critiquing the North American church today. The voices come from both within and without; from those who love the church and those who hate it. We all know that there is something wrong. But what? In many cases the prescription is the same while the cure varies widely. In his new book Crazy Love, first-time author Francis Chan, pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California, regular speaker at Passion conferences and other events, and the guy who recorded that “Just Stop and Think” evangelistic video where he walks for miles holding a surfboard, takes his opportunity to challenge the church. “This book,” he says, “is written for those who want more Jesus. It is for those who are bored with what American Christianity offers. It is for those who don’t want to plateau, who would rather die before their convictions do.” It is a book that is meant to change the way Christians live their lives.

There are two ways of critiquing the church. We can critique out of love or out of disgust. Chan is committed to critiquing the church as an act of love. In a recent interview, when asked about the emergent church, he said this: “As a pastor I hear a lot of emergent leaders talk about what is wrong with the church. It comes across as someone who doesn’t love the church. I’m a pastor first and foremost, and I’m trying to offer a solution or a model of what church should look like. I’m going back to scripture and seeing what the church was in its simplest form and trying to recreate that in my own church. I’m not coming up with anything new. I’m calling people to go back to the way it was. I’m not bashing the church. I’m loving it.” And his love for the church is obvious throughout this book.

The format of Crazy Love is straightforward and effective. Chan dedicates three chapters to renewing our understanding of the character of God and seven chapters calling Christians to examine themselves. Within the book are two ongoing themes that are going to get people talking.

The first theme is that we must painstakingly examine ourselves. We cannot assume we are saved, or to use the biblical metaphor, we cannot assume that we are the good soil. Chan calls the reader to a serious self-inventory through a chapter that provides a profile of the lukewarm. He concludes, “a lukewarm Christian is an oxymoron; there’s no such thing. To put it plainly, churchgoers who are `lukewarm’ are not Christians. We will not see them in heaven.” God wants all or nothing.

The second theme is deeply counter-cultural, going against the stream of both Christian and secular culture. It is this: live your best life later. Chan wants to see Christians living differently–living in a way that is markedly different from those around them. He wants to see Christians forgoing much of what we consider necessary, what we consider our due, in order to focus on treasures that are eternal. He wants us to get outside the realm of what is comfortable to us and focus instead on radical obedience. “God doesn’t call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn’t come through.”

These two themes and a focus on the Scriptures serve to create a powerful and deeply challenging book. There is a very obvious commitment here to teach Scriptural principles from the Scriptures and to invite the reader to verify what he is writing from those same Scriptures. Not surprisingly, the book’s weakest chapter is the one that depends least on the Bible. It is a chapter providing examples of men and women who have made radical choices to live radically different. At least a couple of examples are of people who are probably not the best examples overall because as they’ve jettisoned their old lives, they’ve also jettisoned too much good theology.

That small critique aside, I found that this is a paradigm-shaking book with a message that Christians desperately need to hear. Too many of us are living too safely and too easily. But for the brief moments we spend at church each week, we are practically indistinguishable from the unbelievers around us. This is not the way it is meant to be. The church could use a loving exhortation and Chan delivers well.

Joyce Meyer has a knack for coining phrases-her fans call them “Joyceisms”-and one of her best loved is “Where the mind goes, the man follows.” This was the basis for Battlefield of the Mind, and in her latest book, Meyer provides “power thoughts,” bringing the reader to a new level of ability to use the mind as a tool to achievement.
In POWER THOUGHTS, she outlines a flexible program to turn thoughts into habits, and habits into success. Sections include:

· The Power of a Positive You
· 5 Rules for Keeping Your Attitude at the Right Altitude
· More Power To You bulleted keys to successful thinking in each chapter
· The Power of Perspective

Nobody has more of a “can-do” attitude than Joyce Meyer. Now you can, too.

Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
Bestselling author and TV preacher Meyer takes a step beyond her bestseller Battlefield of the Mind. She offers a 12-step program to help readers conquer the negativity that naturally plagues the mind, leaving readers free to enjoy life and pursue their goals. Using themes from other books in her ample catalogue–worry, perseverance, managing emotions–Meyer breaks her suggestions into several digestible lists, backed by a “Power Pack” of Bible verses at the end of each chapter. She offers enthusiastic encouragement, but also requires action, here in the form of practice, discipline, and continual meditation on the 12 motivational thoughts. Critics of the positive thinking movement (Meyer obliquely acknowledges a debt to the pioneering Norman Vincent Peale) will continue to find downsides in this book, among them failure to sufficiently acknowledge the pain of suffering and an ignorance of intractable mental illness. Critics of Meyer will say she sounds like an infomercial (“You will see amazing results”). Yet her many fans will continue to appreciate her upbeat attitude and her ability to offer practical tips on the toughest topics.

Biography
Joyce Meyer is one of the world’s leading practical Bible teachers. A New York Times bestselling author, her books have helped millions of people find hope and restoration through Jesus Christ.
Through Joyce Meyer Ministries, she teaches on hundreds of subjects, has authored over seventy books and conducts close to fifteen conferences per year. To date, more than 12 million of her books have been distributed worldwide, and in 2007 over 3.2 million copies were sold. Joyce also has a television and radio program, Enjoying Everyday Life®, that is broadcast worldwide to a potential audience of 3 billion people. In addition, her programs can be accessed around the clock at www.joycemeyer.org.
Having suffered sexual abuse as a child and the pain of an emotionally abusive first marriage, Joyce discovered the freedom to live victoriously by applying God’s Word to her life and in turn desires to help others do the same. From her battle with breast cancer to the struggles of everyday life, she speaks openly and practically about her experiences so others can apply what she has learned to their lives.
Over the years, God has provided Joyce with many opportunities to share her testimony and the life-changing message of the Gospel. In fact, Time magazine selected her as one of the most influential evangelical leaders in America. She is an incredible testimony of the dynamic, redeeming work of Jesus Christ. She believes and teaches that regardless of a person’s background or past mistakes, God has a place for them and can help them on their path to enjoying everyday life.
Joyce holds an earned PhD in theology from Life Christian University in Tampa, Florida; an honorary doctorate in divinity from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma; and an honorary doctorate in sacred theology from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. Joyce and her husband, Dave, have been married for over forty years, and they are the parents of four grown children. Dave and Joyce Meyer make their home in St. Louis, Missouri.

Customer Reviews

This latest book by Joyce Meyer is her follow-up to her best-selling “Battlefield of the Mind”–the “next step”–which gives you “specific insights and strategies to help you build powerful mind-sets to empower you to live in a place of strength, success, and victory every day”. And it truly delivers. The author writes that the mind “can be a junkyard or a treasure chest” and in this book, she shows how. I would consider this not a book to be read over lightly, but a manual to be read once and then studied, digested, and most of all–practiced in daily life.

The book has two parts. The first part gives a general overview of why the mind is a battlefield, why we as Christians must take every thought captive, and how this is done. It has been years and years since “Battlefield of the Mind” came out (and thus years and years since I read it) but it seems to me that the first part would be an overview or refresher on what that book covered. Once you understand the basic principles involved, you are ready to go on to the second part. The second part is the meat of the book–a group of specific tools–12 beliefs that are vital in a Christian’s life in order to live in victory. Each belief is one chapter and at the end of the chapter there is a “Power Pack” of Scriptures that the belief is based on for you to memorize. I found the structure of the book really helpful in being able to use it on an ongoing basis.

I read the book last night and today, but am going to be working with it for far longer. I’m going to write the Scriptures down for memorization and (as the book suggests) focus each week for the next 12 weeks on one of the beliefs. The first one is “I can do whatever I need to do in life through Christ”. Another is, “I am difficult to offend.” The last is “I put God first in my life.” Now these may seem elementary and obvious, but it is surprising when you read the book and answer the thought questions interspersed throughout each chapter, how many of them we might forget in daily life. These questions are called “Think About It’ and help you apply each belief to your own life. For example, I identified that I don’t believe the best of other people; instead, I believe the worst so that I’m prepared no matter what happens, and then am pleasantly surprised if something better happens. This might work for me on some levels, but it isn’t Scriptural! (Or effective!)

The author is like a personal coach or “cheerleader in a book” who is endlessly upbeat, cheering you on as you read. If you are a newcomer to Christ, or to victorious Christian living, you will find much support in this book. On the other hand, if you are a mature Christian, long-time veteran of different Bible studies and programs, you won’t find new or unusual information here, but fresh encouragement and/or (as I did) a kick and a jump-start to help you get unstuck from the rut you may be in in your Christian walk. In practical terms, this books walks you through, step by step, everything you need to do to take every thought captive and to begin thinking thoughts that are based on Biblical truth and that lead to a joyful and abundant life.

This book is definitely for any Christian reader; it is interdenominational and doesn’t reflect a Pentecostal theology (as do some of the author’s books). This is information we can all agree on!

Highly recommended.

I was able to see a free viewing of this movie thru LifeWay ministries through our local church. AMAZING MOVIE!!! Just like with FLYWHEEL, FACING THE GIANTS and FIREPROOF these brothers have made a movie that can change peoples lives. This movie is about fathers and their role in the family. What would happen if fathers actually connected with their wives and kids……what a diffrence they would make! I would reccommend this movie to everyone!!!!Comes out in theatres september 30th, 2011.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fatherhood theme via a Christian Faith-based dramatic backdrop, September 30, 2011

(TOP 50 REVIEWER) This review is from: Courageous (DVD)
Expect in-your-face fatherhood morals bursting from an action/emotion story.
Expect the F-words: Faith, Fatherhood, Fears, Failings, Family, Forgiveness.
Expecting goodness, I entered the theater for the 1st opening day matinee. Found it great.
Sheriff Deputies know the necessity of partnership. They take it to heart by forming a small group of men, adding one ethnic carpenter outsider, and strive to make a difference in the lives of their families. They base their “Resolutions” vows upon the Bible. Unfortunately it takes some tragic circumstances to get the men to this point. Their courageous open faith position will not always be taken well…as Dep. Adam Mitchell (Alex Kendrick-Dir, Writer, Editor, Actor) states, “some will mock, some will have no resolve, others will say `I WILL’. Men of courage with God’s help.” He notes they will (and do) face conflict, challenge, controversy, & need courage. Each man has his own family issues, each an individual path of struggle.

A debate is sure to develop. Which is best, “Courageous” or “Fireproof” (2008); the last 2 films by the Kendrick brothers. I vote, equal. Alex does it all in this 4th Faith-based film adventure, while Stephen writes and produces. They also did “Flywheel” 2003; and “Facing the Giants” 2006. Is this film a moral and faith statement from the writers? YES! Of course! That’s what they and their church intend. Expect it, and perhaps be blessed.

This film begins immediately with ACTION, life-threatening, a crashing peak, and then an emotional end to the scene. Hold on to your hat, because you have almost 2 hours of emotion, action, and even some comedy ahead after that. Ken Bevel, as Hayes (Yes, from Fireproof) is new to this police squad. No big HOLLYWOOD stars in this low-budget film that relies on none of the typical theater gimmicks. This film, as in preceding Kendrick film successes, relies on spiritual subject matter, PG13 rating, and the targeting of the Christian Theater viewer, eager for BIGGER-FASTER-STRONGER, but also family and faith oriented. It’s worked for the Kendricks’ casts & crews in the past, it will work again. Expect “COURAGEOUS” in the theater for a few weeks, and then the DVD will be bought by those same viewers…and more.

Viewership will grow, word of mouth, father to father, mom to mom, pew to pew, family to family.

Book Description
Series: Bible Kjv | Publication Date: October 26, 2010
Oxford is proud to announce a limited edition of the 1611 text of the King James Bible, with real leather binding, gilt edging, ribbon marker, gift presentation plate, and protective cloth slipcase.

This is the most authoritative edition of the King James Bible available. The text of the 1611 edition differs from modern editions of the King James Version in thousands of details, and this edition is the most authentic version of the original text that has ever been published. It follows the 1611 text page-for-page and line-for-line, reproducing all misprints rather than correcting them. The volume also reprints the large body of preliminary matter, which includes genealogies, maps, and lists of readings, as well as the translator’s preface to the reader. The text features an easy-to-read modern font instead of the black-letter type of the original, with the exception of the original decorative letters and early page ornaments, which have been reproduced. The volume concludes with an essay by Renaissance Studies expert, Gordon Campbell, on the first edition of the King James Bible.

The four hundredth anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible will be a major event, with celebrations held all over the world. This beautiful Anniversary Edition will make an elegant keepsake with which to remember this event as well as a marvelous gift for anyone interested in the Bible. (christian friends, anyone interested in christianity)

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful Bible!, November 9, 2010
By D. J. OROURKE

This review is from: King James Bible: 400th Anniversary Edition (Bible Kjv) (Hardcover)
I’ve had mine for about three weeks now and I am very pleased with it. It is large, and as such it’s not a carry Bible and it’s not a read in bed Bible. It is, however, a really pleasant experience reading this Bible at a desk. I happen to do a lot of my reading at my desk anyhow, so it works out great.

The layout of the text is fantastic, with lots of white space in the text, which makes it very easy reading. The line spacing is very generous as well. The references are just great; not nearly as overwhelming as, say, a 1560 Geneva or any modern reference Bible. I like the sparse references. There are lots of alternate readings provided, which I actually prefer over the cross-references. They really make reading the KJV much easier by clarifying vague or confusing verses.

WIDE MARGINS! Nowhere in the product description does it mention that is a fantastically wide margined Bible. I’ve never even seen a genuine 1611 KJV, so this kind of came as a surprise to me. But, wow, if your a note taking kind of person there is lots of open space for you to use. Basically something around 1 3/8 on the sides and just under and inch on the top and bottom. Another really nice thing is that the inside margins are big too, which means that NO text gets even close to the gutter. All the text is within a box on a flat sheet of paper no matter where you are in the Bible. Just a great presentation.

The font is not overly large considering the size of the book, but it is plenty big. Probably 9’ish sized font. The overall quality is really nice. I’m not sure that it’s a “luxury” edition exactly, but for $50 it is a super fantastic buy. The leather cover, gilding, paper and binding all seem to be of a very high quality. I have zero issues with this Bible. For the purpose that it serves I can’t recommend it enough. If you want a classic looking KJB for desktop reading, with big margins and 1611 content, buy this one… you won’t regret it.

I get goosebumps when I read this by candlelight; simply amazing. God bless and peace to all my brothers and sisters in Christ! Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Physical Splendour at a bargain, February 23, 2011
By Dr. Chuang Wei Ping “Dr Chuang”

This review is from: King James Bible: 400th Anniversary Edition (Bible Kjv) (Hardcover)
The chap who said “Never judge a book by its cover” probably never ended up selling a single book. I could easily have walked by this Bible in a shop, which from the outside, looked unremarkable except for its size, and concealed in a dowdy maroon cloth covered slip-cover.

Yet the Anglican Journal uses superlatives like “Physical splendour” to describe this “Quartercentenary Edition, an exact reprint in Roman Type, page for page, line for line and letter for letter of the KJV otherwise known as the Authorized Version published in the year 1611 with an anniversary Essay by Gordon Campbell.” “Quartercentenary” triggers off a spell-check alert, and it is a good thing we all understand that this does not mean 25 years.

The real burgundy leather over hard board covers has simple but solid gold stamping. It does not grab appeal. It slowly grows on you, very slowly I must add. The burgundy colour is a refreshing departure from the regular black covers. It is not a hip bible and its majesty took me some time to appreciate.

This bible is huge. The statistics of 11.3 x 9.1 x 2.4 inches and 6.3 pounds does not strike you as large until you are actually holding it. Of course, it is small in comparison to the original KJV, which is 17 inches tall, 30 pounds in weight, which may actually require two people to lift into the pulpit.

In a world of vertically longish bibles, it is rare to find one so exquisitely proportioned. The width of the bible being slightly over 0.8 times the height is the ideal W:L ratio. It is the width, which gives this bible a distinct presence. When it is open, it is a magnificent sight as a book with such a wide “wing-span” is very rare. To read this bible, the support of a table or a bed is needed. I prefer the bed.

The bible opens up flat. The margins are really wide, which adds to the aesthetics, and a great help to post-it users like me. The uncluttered layout makes the “bland” parts of the Old Testament easy to read.

For this review, I have bent the bible backwards to examine the binding “crash”, “mull” or that thingy which supports the stitching. It looked even and nicely done when viewed with a fibre-optic light. The binding – the first book part to give way and also the least visible – looks strong and the hinges of the covers likewise. Some additional effort made to secure the hinges was visible. The binding will resist the shearing forces in the hands of those more accustomed to handling small “i”-phones than very big books. I think this bible was built to last. There is nothing which says that it is acid-free, although it looks like acid-free paper is used.

The pages are glare-free even under the strongest (halogen) or uneven lighting (like from a bedside lamp). The pages are thick matt-white, and do not stick together. Every leaf feels strong and does not crinkle easily. Not much of yellow highlighter ink seeps through to the reverse page of a leaf. The Apocrypha is between the New and Old Testaments so opening the bible in the centre does not find Psalms. Amazon describes one ribbon, but my copy has two claret red ribbons, one over Esther and another over Isaiah, so they are both symmetrical around the centre. The gold paint on the gilded edges do not appear to be thick enough as the fore-edges look whitish when the bible is open.

There is quite a bit of artwork in the earlier pages of this bible. The Title Page art is impressive.
The calendar retains some of the Gothic typeface of the original 1611 KJV. There are 33 pages of illustrated Genealogy in different artistic layouts. This 400th anniversary edition is large enough to have a Map of Canaan over two opposing pages, but the details are hard to make out, since this is not the original 30 pound KJV. The artwork in the Capital Letter block in the beginning of each chapter is really interesting. There are a lot of “A”s, as in “And it came to passe…”, but it is amazing how many artistic variations there are for the capital “A” alone. There can be three different types of artwork for three separate “A”s appearing on the same spread. I estimate that there must be at least 100 different basic block artwork for the letter “A” alone, and I think I see some tiny variations in similar blocks.

The 11 ½ page essay by Gordon Campbell at the end of the text block gives a summary of the history of the KJV including how the Apocrypha got excluded. Very intriguing is Gordon Campbell pointing out that there are thousands of differences between the 1611 KJV and the present day bookshelf KJV. 1611 KJV Matthew 16:16 “thou art Christ” changed to “thou art the Christ”, “the words of Jesus” Matthew 26:75 became “the word (singular) of Jesus”.

Even a comma changed 2 Corinthians 5:2 from “for in this we grone earnestly, desiring to be clothed” to “for in this we grone, earnestly desiring to be clothed”. There were 350 “typo”s, 250 in the text and 100 in the marginal notes. Mostly inconsequential, like Gel: for Gal:, or “plaine” in Leviticus 13:56 which should read “plague”. Gordon Campbell then appends a separate 2-page list of some typos, like “brothe” for “brother” in Matthew 12. He does not go into errors in translation, and wisely too.

I note some comments about this bible being printed in China. Most of the 400th Anniversary ones are printed in China, and they are well done. I see it as a step forward. PRC will never allow politically sensitive material to be printed in China, and I sense that China is realising that persecuting Christians today is becoming a lost communist cause. I once commented that the most attentive listeners of sermons in Church are the government agents. To which a friend retorted, “Hallelujah, at least some in the secret police may still be Saved.” Likewise, at least some in the bible making industry in China may still be Saved.

Book making has long been outsourced, and it is pretty tedious work with low profit margins. Unlike some branded goods, at least the savings on bibles have been passed on to consumers. The similar sized large print Dake KJV (also very large and heavy) is printed in Korea, while the compact Dake is printed in China. As China is getting less competitive, printing is moving to Vietnam and Indonesia. Gordon Campbell was very decent in claiming only a “moral right” to his essay, rather than a copyright.

A bible of “physical splendour” at a bargain price.

2011 Thanksgiving update: I notice that the cover has changed from the dowdy maroon to a more impressive black cover with more stamped embellishments. The old Amazon illustration was just a maroon rectangular blob. They said it was going to be a limited print edition. I suppose it is the classic maroon one is limited. I would never begrudge more of this bible being printed. Apparently the demand is high. For those in the USA entitled to Free Shipping from Amazon, this can be considered a further discount. It exceeds the standard weight and international buyers incur a weight surcharge on this heavy item.

4.0 out of 5 stars The mother of all bibles, October 24, 2010
By Wu Wei

This review is from: King James Bible: 400th Anniversary Edition (Bible Kjv) (Hardcover)
This is a large and HEAVY bible! Also, it is a 1611 KJV bible which means that it is VERY, VERY, VERY different from the ordinary King James bibles. For anyone who wants all of that, that is, anyone who wants a large, heavy 1611 King James bible will be happy with this edition.

Besides being 8.5 X 11 inches in size, this bible is over two inches thick. It has heavy, quality paper, along with a very sturdy and heavy cover, so it is HEAVY. It is uncomfortable to hold in the lap, and it cannot safely be read while opened with one hand. However, the font is large and clear enough that it can be read in bed with a tilting bed stand. Without such a stand, the only real option is to read the bible while it is laying flat on a table. If that is not acceptable, the buyer should consider smaller, lighter 1611 King James bibles instead of this one.

Like any 1611, this is very different from any KJV or modern bible. The spelling is phonetic, and very different from today’s spelling. For example, “been” is spelled “bene” and “do” is spelled as “doe”.

Also some letters are actually “switched” while printing. For example, modern “v” is often printed as “u” and modern “u” is often printed as “v”. So “unto” is spelled “vnto”, “up” as “vp”, “have” as “haue”, and “love” as “loue”. “joy” is spelled “ioy” and “Jesus” is spelled as “Iesus”.

Overall the print quality of this bible is excellent. However 3 of the last pages of the Revelation and one page of the appendix following that have a single dark bar across the bottom. This can make one line of the page harder to read. The paper quality is excellent and the print is consistent and easy to read. The edges of the pages are gilt all the way around

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked it a lot., September 22, 2011
By Denise –

This review is from: Know Your Bible: All 66 Books Explained (VALUE BOOKS) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Bible has over a thousand chapters which is a lot of information to digest. However this book will help you get a quick handle on what’s going on in each of its sixty-six books.

How is the book set up? Well, each of the sixty-six books of the Bible gets is explained in 1-2 pages. On these pages, the book follows an outline that covers seven items:

-the author
-the date when the book was written
-in ten words or less what each book’s key theme is
-details of the key events, people, and messages of that particular book (this is the longest section)
-several key verses from that particular book
-any unique and unusual facts in the book
-and an inspirational or devotional thought for each book

Know that this is a small and short book, but then again, that’s the whole point of it. It is meant to give you a nice, concise synopsis of each book of the Bible – and I felt like it succeeds nicely in doing just that. Other short books I really liked include The Prayer Project: How Each One of Us Can Make The World a Better Place to Live – In a Few Minutes a Day.

God’s Farmer: The Angus Buchan Story

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The growing genre of Christian cinema adds to its flock Faith Like Potatoes, based on the book of the same name about a real-life South African farmer named Angus Buchan. Buchan accepted Jesus at a moment of crisis and began experiencing miracles, ranging from sudden rain putting out a wildfire to reviving a woman struck by lightning. The movie follows Buchan (played by Frank Rautenbach, star of a South African soap opera) from his failed farm in Zambia to his rise as a lay evangelist, delivering a sermon in a massive South African stadium. He begins as a sullen, short-tempered man, quick to lash out at his wife (the lovely Jeanne Wilhelm) and the native Zulu workers on his struggling farm. But as his life takes on the purpose of spreading the Word, Buchan finds personal peace (though he also faces personal tragedies). Faith Like Potatoes is squarely aimed at Christian viewers; its straightforward take on Christianity is unlikely to persuade skeptics. Despite the intriguing and (for an American audience) exotic locale, the problems Buchan faces (overwork, an emotionally remote marriage) feel bland and generic. Though Buchan clearly disapproves of a snide British farmer’s colonialist contempt for the Zulus, the movie’s own attitude towards them is paternalistic at best. Still, despite baldly expository dialogue, Faith Like Potatoes does have a steady forward momentum to its story, and there’s little question that the right audience will find its message comforting and compelling. –Bret Fetzer
Product Description
A farmer moves his family to South Africa and suffers a series of seemingly insurmountable losses. Through unlikely friendships and much needed divine intervention, he discovers his life’s true purpose and it sustains his unwavering belief in the power of faith. A moving life journey of a man who, like his potatoes, grows his faith, unseen until the harvest.

Editorial Reviews

Left Behind – The Movie
Part conspiracy theory and part religious message, Left Behind (based on the first in a series of runaway bestsellers by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins) is a passable, occasionally compelling thriller that turns the rapture and the ascendance of the Antichrist into something resembling a Robert Ludlum espionage potboiler. The beginning, though, is pure Stephen King: as morose pilot Rayford Steele (Brad Johnson) steers his jet plane toward London, comely flight attendant Hattie Daniels (Chelsea Noble) informs him that a number of passengers have disappeared–at 37,000 feet, leaving their neatly pressed clothes behind. And they’re not the only ones who’ve gone missing. The mass disappearances throw the world into chaos, and the sinisterly compelling Nicolae Carpathia (Gordon Currie), head of the U.N., selflessly steps in to help broker peace among the world’s nations. But is he as good intentioned as he seems?
Turns out the appropriately named Mr. Carpathia is behind a plot to rule the world and control its food supply, and intrepid reporter Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron, better than you’d expect) is onto him–with a little help from some biblical prophecies. Suffering the problem that befalls most first installments in a series of books and movies, Left Behind busies itself with the task of introducing characters and setting up expository plot lines, and audiences may be frustrated by the lack of action–Rayford’s somewhat labored crisis of faith takes up a good chunk of the film. Still, it’s an intriguing premise that should satisfy fans of the novel and possibly pick up a few more converts along the way (be warned, though, this is a modestly budgeted film that looks more like a cable TV movie than the latest James Bond extravaganza). And, if like a fair number of the film’s characters, you can’t figure out that someone named “Nicolae Carpathia” is a bad guy, then, well, you need to bone up on your evil villains. –Mark Englehart

Left Behind II – Tribulation Force
Arguably the most interesting and compelling feature in the Left Behind trilogy, Left Behind II: Tribulation Force finds the series’ major characters–television journalist Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron), passenger jet captain Rayford Steele (Brad Johnson), his daughter Chloe (Janaya Stephens), and Pastor Bruce Barnes (Clarence Gilyard)–forming the core of a group dedicated to infiltrating and disrupting operations of the Anti-Christ, i.e., Nicolae Carpathia (a scary Gordon Currie), who has become leader of a world government. Meanwhile, humankind looks increasingly desolate and bleak, as the reality sinks in that hundreds of millions of people who suddenly vanished–including all the world’s children–in the last film are not coming back. Veteran television director Bill Corcoran makes much of his scant resources to paint an apocalyptic vision, and when the film gets to indulge in some nifty effects (a pair of fire-breathing prophets–literally), the result is powerful. Drama, relationships, character development, and performances are quite smooth and should appeal to Christian and non-Christian viewers alike. –Tom Keogh

Left Behind – World at War
Third in a series of films based on the bestselling novels by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, Left Behind: World at War finds the post-Rapture Earth an even bleaker place than in the previous movies. As the Antichrist himself, Nicolae Carpathia (Gordon Currie), uses his newfound powers as head of the world government to bring war and plague on every nation, the American president (Louis Gossett Jr.) teams with a Christian resistance fighter (Jessica Steen) to try to stop him. Meanwhile, series hero Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron) discovers that Carpathia’s biological front in a coming apocalypse is particularly devious: Freshly published Bibles are carrying a deadly disease ravaging thousands–and may very likely claim Buck’s new bride. Buck’s father-in-law, pilot Rayford Steele (Brad Johnson), has problems of his own facing the not-inconsiderable temptations of former flight attendant Hattie Daniels (Chelsea Noble), now one of Carpathia’s many lovers. Directed by Craig R. Baxley (Rose Red), Left Behind: World at War is particularly crisp and effective drama, even when the action stops, as it often does, for many of the principals to pray for guidance. Charles Martin Smith (The Untouchables), not seen often enough these days, has a brief but powerful part as the U.S. vice-president. –Tom Keogh

Product Description
This collection includes: Left Behind: The Movie; Left Behind II: Tribulation Force; Left Behind: World At War; and the bonus disc of The Original Left Behind Documentary, based on the Book by Peter & Paul Lalonde. These classic thrillers star: Kirk Cameron, Lou Gossett, Jr., Chelsea Noble, Brad Johnson, and Clarence Gilyard.

Mackenzie Allen Phillips’s youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change his life forever.

Editorial Reviews

She catapulted to international stardom
overnight with 500 million YouTube hits, smashed music records around the world
with her triumphant debut album and now Susan Boyle returns with her eagerly
awaited second album, The Gift.

The Gift, sees Susan Boyle
and world acclaimed producer Steve Mac reunited to present a breathtaking
seasonal album. Featuring yule time favourites ‘The First Noel’ and ‘O Holy
Night’, Susan also fearlessly takes on iconic pop songs including ‘Don’t Dream
It’s Over’ and ‘Perfect Day’ giving them a new identity.

Also making her
musical debut on The Gift is American medic and winner of the
International Susan Search, Amber Stassi. Amber & Susan perform a stunning
and inimitable rendition of ‘Do you Hear What I Hear’.

Now with a
beautiful seasonal album she will, once again, defy critics and preconceptions.

Susan explained; “When making this album, I really wanted the songs to
touch hearts. Music has always been a companion to me, particularly on special
occasions. I wanted there to be a mix of songs that would flow with all our
moods this holiday season. As much as the season is a time for reflection, it is
also a time for fun and enjoyment with those closest to us.”

“ The beauty of her voice is unique and her interpretation of these songs is breathtaking. ” – hello dolly |
“ This CD was purchased as a Christmas gift for my wife and she has greatly enjoyed listening to it! ” – Engineer |

Biography
With a synchronicity you’d have difficulty making up, Susan Boyle’s global record sales hit a monumental 14million on the fourteenth month after her recording career started. With number one albums on five continents, in over 20 countries, her two albums have shifted the Susan story far away from a performance on a British Talent Show.

Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Topping the New York Times list and already selling five million copies, The Love Dare has established itself as more than a book; it’s an unstoppable marriage movement. And like the husband in Fireproof (the film where The Love Dare originated), readers know this 40-day challenge to understand and practice unconditional love with their spouse need not end when the book does.

With that in mind, The Love Dare Day by Day encourages and challenges couples toward new steps in faith and love with 365 marital encouragements, reminders, and action points worth repeating year after year.

Unconditional love is eagerly promised at weddings, but rarely practiced in real life. As a result, romantic hopes are often replaced with disappointment in the home. But it doesn’t have to stay that way. Whether your marriage is hanging by a thread or healthy and strong, The Love Dare Day by Day is a journey you need to take. It’s time to learn the keys to finding true intimacy

Editorial Reviews
Product Description
A young boy emerges from life-saving surgery with remarkable stories of his visit to heaven.

Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn’t know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.

Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how “reaaally big” God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit “shoots down power” from heaven to help us.

Told by the father, but often in Colton’s own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.

About the Author
Todd Burpo is pastor of Crossroads Wesleyan, a wrestling coach, a volunteer fireman, and he operates a garage door company with his wife, Sonja, who is also a children’s minister, busy pastor’s wife, and mom. Colton, now an active 11-year-old, has an older sister Cassie and a younger brother Colby. The family lives in Imperial, Nebraska.

Lynn Vincent is the New York Times best-selling writer of Same Kind of Different as Me and Going Rogue: An American Life. The author or co-author of nine books, Vincent is a senior writer for WORLD magazine and a lecturer in writing at the King’s College in New York City. She lives in San Diego, California. –This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Might Need This If You Plan to Buy Any Of the Newest 2011 Kindles Except the Fire!, September 29, 2011
By Ellen Ripley (ILLINOIS, USA) – This review is from: Amazon Kindle US Power Adapter (Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle DX) (Accessory)
The newly announced $79 Kindle, the Kindle Touch Wi-Fi and Kindle Touch 3G come with an included USB 2.0 cable that you can use to charge your device by connecting it to a computer. But the specs also say:

“U.S. POWER ADAPTER SOLD SEPARATELY”

So you are going to need one of these if you ordered one of these Kindles. I guess that’s why they are 50% off. Amazon is trying to take some of the sting out of the deal for when everyone finds out that they need an adapter to plug/charge it in a wall outlet. In the past all Kindles came with the adapter included in the purchase price. Welcome to the new AMAZON!

Note: The Kindle Fire comes with both a USB cable and it’s own power adapter, so you won’t need one for the Fire.

This is the same adapter that you should already have if you own one of the the latest generation Kindles, so no need to buy a 2nd one. I lost the adapter on my Kindle 3 and had to buy one of these. It works as it should, it charges the Kindle.

which makes the new Kindle just about the best Christmas gift out there.” – Popular Science
